Colonel Sanders took action and reaped the rewards

How many times do you hear people say they’ve left it too late in life to change careers? Or left it too late to try something new?

…and how often do people attempt something but give up after a couple of tries. The latter is often followed by “I tried it but it didn’t work for me”.

One man who overcame both these obstacles is Colonel Sanders, founder of KFC (in case you didn’t know). If you have ever wondered why he is always shown as a man with white hair and a white beard, is because he was already retired when he founded the company.

When he first retired and started drawing his state pension, he was shocked at how little he would get to live on, so he decided there and then to take fate into his own hands.
Not sure how he was going to do it, the one thing he did have was a kick a$$ recipe for fried chicken. However, with no real capital behind him, there was no way he could open his own restaurant.

Instead, he decided to visit every food outlet he feasibly could and see if they would be prepared to use his recipe, and all he asked for is a tiny percentage of any chicken sold using his product.

While I can’t speak for you personally, I think it is a fair assumption that after 10 rejections, most people would probably give up. How many of us would keep trying after 100 rejections? What about 300 rejections?

Therefore, I find it mind blowing that he was rejected a reported 1009 times before somebody finally agreed to give his recipe a shot. And of course, the rest is history.
What does this teach us? Well, firstly you are never too old to try something new, and secondly, as long as you never give up, you will always have a chance of getting what you want in life.
